FRAP (Centre for Prevention of Radicalisation in Prison)

We support and encourage professionals working at penal institutions and offender support services to recognise radicalisation at an early stage and to counter the extremes in a preventive way. We focus on the phenomena of right-wing extremism as well as extremism based on religion (e.g. Islamic extremism and violent Salafism).

FRAP (Centre for Prevention of Radicalisation in Prison) is implemented by Miteinander - Netzwerk für Demokratie und Weltoffenheit Sachsen-Anhalt e.V. (department of right-wing extremism), the Landesverband für Kriminalprävention und Resozialisierung Sachsen-Anhalt e.V. (department of social integration) and the Hallesche Jugendwerkstatt gGmbH (department of religiously based extremism).

What We Do

The 'Centre for Prevention of Radicalisation in Prison' supports and encourages professionals in the prison system and criminal justice system to recognise radicalisation as early as possible. The focus is on phenomena of right-wing extremism and religious extremism, for example Islamism, violent Salafism and ethno-religious conflicts. The aim is to initiate and support preventive measures for the target groups. The aim is to combine measures within and outside the prison system.

The services offered by the 'Centre for Prevention of Radicalisation in Prison' are aimed at professionals from the independent help centres for offenders and the social services of the justice system as well as employees of the prisons in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The following offers can be taken advantage of free of charge through FRAP:

  •     Need-based further training on radicalisation and radicalisation prevention in the above-mentioned areas of phenomena.
  •     Needs-based in-house training for teams within an agency or institution
  •     Case-related counselling
  •     Support in the development and implementation of offers for the prevention of radicalisation
  •     Development and implementation of preventive, life-world-related and resource-activating offers inside and outside the prison (social group work).

Our goal of the project work...

... is to combine work inside and outside the prison. Processes of distancing and/or acquiring values in the sense of the Basic Law and human rights that have been initiated in prison should not be interrupted, but should be further supported and promoted in the resocialisation process. The project work supports successful and relapse-preventing resocialisation as a goal and task of all actors in the field of criminal justice, also with regard to the prevention of radicalisation.

Department of social reintegration

The specialist of department of social reintegration in the model project FRAP in Prison and Offender Assistance Saxony-Anhalt is the Landesverband für Kriminalprävention und Resozialisierung Sachsen-Anhalt e.V. Both right-wing extremist and religiously motivated radicalisation are taken into account and, if necessary, the other specialised departments are consulted.

Further training
The training courses, which are oriented towards the respective needs, are intended to impart knowledge in the context of social reintegration and reflect on experiences in order to open up both preventive and intervening possibilities of action for professionals in the context of help for offenders in dealing with radicalisation.

Counselling and support
Professionals working in the field of prison services who are confronted with the phenomena of right-wing extremist or religiously motivated radicalisation in their work of social reintegration can take advantage of supportive, accompanying and case-related coaching at the centre. Furthermore, the specialised department accompanies and advises the professionals organised in the structure of the state association in the development and implementation of offers for the prevention of radicalisation.

Measures for the prevention of radicalisation
The department of social reintegration supports the phenomenon-specific departments for right-wing extremism and religious extremism in the development and implementation of tailor-made preventive measures. The aim is to provide seamless support to the recipients of free help for offenders.
